Winter Tree Identification

Sunday 11th January 2:00 pm

This is another opportunity to learn about the identification of trees and shrubs in winter when most of them have dropped their leaves. We will also look like broadleaved evergreen trees and shrubs. We will be studying such features as twigs, buds, the arrangement of the branches, any remaining fruits, and the overall form of the trees. As well as some native species, the cemetery contains many exotics as it was originally laid out as an arboretum. I will be bringing along my trusty identification key. Hand lenses (or small binoculars viewed in reverse) would be useful if you can bring them. We may see other wildlife too, especially bird life. Please bring warm clothing and stout footwear.
