Birds will be the focus of my final cemetery walk of 2024. The majority of the birds that can be found in cemetery these days are present all year round but in winter when they are more active on the hunt for food, tend to form larger flocks, and can be seen more easily among the bare branches. Most of the birds seen will be the usual garden varieties but the cemetery has a lot of conifers and so it attracts coal tits, goldcrests, and the pretty fire crest. Other species likely to be seen include kestrel, green and great spotted woodpeckers, nuthatch, mistle thrush, jay, and the noisy ring-necked parakeets. We will also pay a visit to the cemetery lake and hope to find interesting duck like pochard, shoveler, and mandarin duck. There are often herons and cormorants there too.
