This will be a new type of walk concentrating on looking for the mines of moths, flies, and sawflies on the leaves of plants, especially trees and shrubs, as well as the many galls that can be seen at this time of year. These latter being particularly prolific on trees such as oak, lime, and sycamore. Leaf mines can be of two main types – blotch or serpentine mines and they are commonest again on oak and on certain other trees and shrubs such as bramble leaves, hawthorn, and even plane trees. We may come across fungi on trees and wood as well as identifying some tree species as we travel around the cemetery. I will try to carry on with the walk even if the weather is quite damp but may call it off if very windy or stormy.
