My fungi walk at the cemetery was very popular last year so this year I have decided to run two fungi walks. The old cemetery has remained very undisturbed for 170 years and therefore a large population of fungi has built up. In addition to this there is a mix of heathy grassland, and woodland/trees including native broadleaved trees, such as oak, and many ornamental conifers. All of this means that a very rich variety of fungi species are present. The cemetery is particularly good for fungi that like dead wood as well as waxcaps, funnel caps, parasols, milk caps and relatives of the common cultivated mushroom. We may be lucky enough to see the earthstars under the cypresses again this year.
