Learn about Fungi

Saturday 18th October 2:00 pm

October is usually the best month to see fungi in woodland, grassland, and cemeteries. Over 200 species have been found in the Old Cemetery. This year the hot and sunny summer will have boosted the production of sugars by trees and other plants upon which non-decomposing fungi species feed. This means that given a favourable rainfall pattern, there could be fungi galore by mid-October. The cemetery is well known for it’s parasols, funnel caps, wax caps, tough shanks, bracket fungi, blewits, bonnet caps, and brittlegills. We may find giant puffball, earthstars, and interesting micro-fungi too.
