How to Identify Trees in Winter

Saturday 13th January 1:30 pm

Southampton Old Cemetery contains a wealth of planted trees, both native and non-native, because when the cemetery was originally laid out in Victorian times it was intended that it would also be an arboretum. We have already looked at the coniferous trees so the main purpose of this walk will be to focus on the broad-leaved species, both evergreen and deciduous, and to examine their identification features. Expect to see various species of laurel, holm oak, silver pendant limes, Indian bean tree, English oaks, walnuts, red horse-chestnut, and many others as we move around the cemetery.
