Cemetery Fungus Search

Sunday 8th October 2:00 pm

I have studied the fungi in Southampton Old Cemetery since 1978 and in the period 1991 to about 2019 I regularly included the old cemetery in the route of my annual public fungus forays for Southampton City Council. The rich assemblage of trees and habitats as well as the amount of old timber and the variation of soil conditions make for a great variety of fungi. I have seen well over 100 species here. There is a waxcap lawn, some unusual fungi specifically associated with the conifers and a particularly strong population of the edible parasol mushroom.
