Yesterday afternoon FoSOC received a thoughtful request from a local hotelier asking if we might be able to locate a grave as a surprise for one of their guests, Marie Claire Tavernier who is visiting for a few days from Paris. We sprang into action and a successful search was quickly achieved. The hotelier was informed and they broke the good news to their guest at breakfast time and this afternoon Bruce was very pleased to be able to show Marie Claire the grave location of her Grandfather, Ernest Arthur Thiercelin who not long before his death in 1910 had been the Chauffeur to General Louis Botha the Prime Minister of South Africa. Unfortunately there is no headstone but Marie Claire was delighted to be able to pay her respects and placed a beautiful Campanula (Bell Flower) on his grave. … Continue reading →
