Professor James Stevens Curl - Making Dystopia

Sunday 8th July 2018

On 15 October 2017 (see FoSOC Recent News Stories) we were delighted to report that our President, Professor James Stevens Curl, had been honoured with the presentation of The President’s Medal at the British Academy’s 2017 Awards and Medals Ceremony.

Professor Curl has written about the origins of his interest in architectural and cemetery history and its development during his most distinguished career. We are sure that FoSOC members will enjoy reading this very informative article and it can be found by clicking on this link:

Professor Curl’s new book: ‘Making Dystopia’ (The Strange Rise and Survival of Architectural Barbarism) will be published, in hardback, 30 August 2018 (£45), and can be pre-ordered at www.oup.com. In his review of the book, David Watkin, Emeritus Professor of Architecture of the University of Cambridge, wrote:

‘The most gripping and complete account of how architecture and urban planning were corrupted in the twentieth and the twenty-first century, leading to a catastrophic deterioration of the built environment…. a brilliant, thoroughly researched, and completely novel book..’
