100th Anniversary of Commonwealth War Graves Commission

Sunday 21st May 2017

Today is the 100th Anniversary of the forming of the Commonwealth (formally Imperial) War Graves Commission - 21st May 1917. David Palmer led a group made up of 25 Public and FoSOC members on a short but very instructive walk on the history of both the First and Second World War, Commonwealth War Graves. FoSOC was very pleased to welcome Alastair Goodall a representative from the CWGC. The walk with the added bonus of brilliant sunshine, started at the Cross of Sacrifice with David talking of when and how the CWGC was formed and the group assembled back at the Cross at the end of the walk for a short ceremony, with David reading a poem written by one of the war casualties and the laying of wreaths by Alastair Goodall on behalf of the CWGC and Billy Ferguson on behalf of FoSOC. Many thanks to David for an outstanding and an informative walk.
