This afternoon we got a very excited phone call from Gwen who works part time for the ‘Southampton Scrapstore’ charity to say the frontage of the non-conformist Chapel (now used for storage) was swarming with Ladybirds! So, Bruce jumped onto his bicycle and went to investigate and sure enough there were hundreds of Ladybirds all over the facade of the building. A phone call was then made to John Vetterlein who said he had witnessed this phenomenon several years ago and thinks it’s because today, having been exceptionally warm for the time of year had tempted them out of hibernation and the warm stonework had attracted them. They were all busily rushing around and it was certainly a lovely treat to see so many different species all gathering together on a very special place.
