The Battle of Waterloo Act of Remembrance Service in the Old Cemetery

Thursday 18th June 2015

This morning FoSOC were honoured to have been invited to attend an Act of Remembrance Service for two brave soldiers of ‘The Royal Regiment of Artillery’ on the 200th Anniversary of The Battle of Waterloo. The Order of Service was said by Lt Simon Parsons of the 1st Regiment of ‘The Royal Horse Artillery’ based at Tidworth. The Service started at 10.50am and shortly before 11.00am the Standard bearer, Mr Phil Garbutt of ‘The Royal Artillery Association’ lowered the Standard and a two minute silence was observed. Wreaths were then laid simultaneously on the graves of Lt General, Richard Beaumont Burnaby and Colonel Thomas Gore Brown by Lt Parsons and Gunner Cane of the ‘Hants and Sussex Gunnery Battery’ based at Larkhill. Also in attendance were, retired Colonel, Michael Brown of ‘The Royal Artillery Historical Society’, WO1 (RASM) Roger Bramall (the most senior soldier in the Royal Artillery) and WO2 Baz Green. The Service which lasted for about twenty minutes took place in glorious sunshine and was a very poignant reminder of this most historic and crucial battle where so many heroic souls lost their lives doing their duty for King and Country.
